My friends in Florida are getting hammered by Hurricane Irma. It’s been a rough few weeks but nothing out of the ordinary if you’ve been watching these things for as long as I have. Some years we get nothing at all and other years, it’s just one after another. It was bound to happen. Our weather has been too perfect for the last two years.

Sorry I bailed out on you this past week. I bent down to pick up a dog bowl and my back went out–just like that. It took two solid days to get over the pain. I recovered in time to put piggy in the freezer. That was an all day job, but more on that tomorrow in the State of the Homestead report.

I hope wherever you are, you’re safe and among friends or family.

  1. I was just thinking of Tilly today. I hope your back gets back to feeling all the way better soon! After trying to re-configure our freezer today since it was so full of stuff and I was adding more to it, I decided next week is clean out the freezer week (i.e. plan meals around what we have in the freezer).

    • Betty: It took me longer than I anticipated to empty out my freezer.

When it got empty enough to reorganize, I put ground beef in one spot, steaks, in another, and so on. It’s easier to see what you have if you have the same type of meat/chicken/seafood on their own shelves or side.
