It’s Thanksgiving week which means the crowds are unbelievable at the grocery stores right now. I had planned on shopping earlier, but we had two unexpected delays. The first was for a delivery that needed a signature, but the second involved another emergency vet visit for Iko.
He had no sooner recovered from his eye injury when I noticed he had become listless Saturday morning. His gums were pink, but he was panting and he felt warm. I took his temperature and it was 104.5. I checked his body for ticks or any other telltale signs of infection. He’s hard to examine because he has a super thick coat right now and we had to feel around inch by inch.
The poor boy had three puncture marks. The only suspect…Nana. That dog is hostile to any animal she thinks she can bully. Iko is very submissive, but he’s big, so she’s never been able to bully him. We think she’s beginning to realize he’s getting older and more vulnerable. Attacks happen quickly. The whole thing could’ve exploded and then dissipated within seconds.
Iko had an appetite Friday afternoon, but Saturday morning, he wasn’t interested in food. That’s not like him. I was glad our vet was working that day. By the end of the day he was eating again. Nana is dog non grata right now.
I hate to do it, but I think I’m going to get a muzzle for her. Does anyone have any experience with muzzles? I’d like to get one of the soft mesh ones.
I hope that’s the extent of excitement for this year. We’re out another couple hundred dollars. 🙁 Thanks, Nana.
At least Iko will be okay. That’s all that matters.
