I keep a jar of bacon grease in my fridge. If you don’t think you’ll use it in six months, pour it into an ice cube tray and freeze. Don’t waste the grease. It gives food another level of flavor.
Have you ever used bacon grease in your recipes?
I’m in and out today so I’ll respond to comments when I’m good and worn out.

I love using leftover bacon grease to add a little somethin’ somethin’ to meals. Unfortunately, it’s been so long since I bought bacon, I don’t have any grease left. This ‘bacon on and in everything’ craze had driven the price so high I can barely afford the cheap bacon, and that stuff is just nasty.
BE: I wish I had some tips on buying bacon cheaply but I don’t. It’s expensive no matter what. It rarely goes on sale.
I won’t buy it unless it’s the thick cut. There’s no point in cooking thin bacon. 🙂
love my bacon… always stock up when I find it on sale and freeze it. Never thought about freezing the bacon grease though (of course, it doesn’t stay around my house too long… I’m in the south. It goes in just about everything for seasoning!)
Judy: That’s true. Southern cooking always uses bacon grease.
I freeze mine in portion sizes. We might eat it twice in a week and then next month we won’t eat it at all.
I love my bacon, but I haven’t cooked with the grease. These are pretty good ideas for its use.
Angela: Oh, you’ve got to try it on sauteed cabbage or stir fried rice. It’s delish!
We rarely cook bacon these days, saving it for a treat when we go out for breakfast 🙂 I hadn’t thought of saving the grease when we did cook it. I think my mom saved it, but never for very long, maybe until the next time she cooked something that needed grease. Good idea to freeze it 🙂

Betty: I used to have one of those little metal cans with a strainer top. You’d pour the grease and the little bits stayed on top.
Wish I knew what happened to that little can.
My mother always saved the bacon grease but I never cook bacon.
Susan Says
Susan: Oh child. You’re depriving yourself. 😀
So, you’re saying bacon grease isn’t bad for you? Of course, I rarely cook bacon (I’d want to eat it all!!!), but the uses for bacon grease sound intriguing.
Stacy: I believe in moderation in all things. A little dab of bacon grease won’t kill you–and it makes food taste fantastic.
